Welcome to the Youth Empowerment Action (YEA) - a not-for-profit organisation based in the village of Franschhoek in the Boland winelands of South Africa.

YEA's main objective is to to empower the youth of the valley of Franschhoek through their complete reintegration back into their families, schools and community as a whole.

Youth Empowerment Action is a comprehensive, preventative and rehabilitative, developmental project, for age’s birth to young, adulthood and families.

Youth Empowerment Action is a NPO organization that has evolved in the Franschhoek Valley to meet the needs of a community in which there was no mental health provision, family guidance, rehabilitation centres or even day care. The initial focus was to remove children from the street and to re-integrate them into their families, schools and social lives. Over time, the focus changed to be more preventative. Critically, YEA has developed from ‘the inside out’ because its founder, Mrs Minnie Petersen, has always lived in the community, and YEA and its projects continue to expand organically to meet whatever the community needs are current.

To ensure that Franschhoek has a safe and healthy environment.

To integrate all children from the street back into society and their homes.
